William E. Bean

William E. (Ed) Bean, 90, formerly of Wichita, died Oct. 17, 2004, at Marion Manor in Marion.

Born Nov. 25, 1913, in Andale, he was the son of the late John J. and Dorothea G. (Hein) Bean. On Feb. 2, 1943, he married Helen Brand of Garden Plain. She preceded him in death.

He was a Staff-Sgt. in the U.S. Army, serving his country from Sept. 8, 1940, to Nov. 21, 1944. He worked for Western Lithography of Wichita for more than 20 years, retiring in 1980.

He was preceded in death by parents; his wife; brothers, Jerome, Wendell, Vincent, Eugene, and Kenneth V.; grandson, Charles Lipke Jr; and son-in-law, Charles Lipke Sr.

Survivors include daughters, Dorothea J. Bean, Plano, Texas, Jane Lipke, Kansas, Ruth and husband Kenneth Winter, Hillsboro; son, Kenneth M. and wife Jerry Bean of Wichita; sister, Abby Schoenecker, Akron, Colo.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

A memorial has been established with St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wichita. Services are pending.
