Windover addition is topic for special meeting
The Hillsboro City Council took no action Tuesday on the Windover Ordinance 1088 or Resolution 2004-02 at its regular meeting. Instead the council will hold a special meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the project.
Ordinance 1088 allows the construction of internal improvements authorized by Resolution No. 2004-02. Those improvements include streets, water lines, storm water sewer improvements, sewer lines, and drainage and landscaping.
The city council approved the purchase of a Sysmex hematology analyzer for Hillsboro Community Medical Center to replace the current analyzer which is 15 years old.
Mike Ryan, chief executive officer of HCMC, told the council that the hospital is now current on its utility bills.
"We promised to be current by July 1, and we were current on May 1," Ryan said.
Brenda Brown, director of nursing at HCMC, explained the need for a new telemetry system for which HCMC is accepting bids.
The hospital's old system doesn't have the needed parameters for standard care, is 11 years old, and replacement parts are expensive and difficult to find.
"Our current system is inadequate," said Brown. "The telemetry system helps monitor patients, and we need to update our system."
Ryan invited council members to visit HCMC to see firsthand the improvements and needs of the hospital.
Megan Kilgore of Hillsboro Management Board recognized Golden Heritage Foods, LLC and Country Haven Inn for receiving Regional Achievement Awards from the Kansas Department of Commerce.
Each year KDC sponsors Business Appreciation Month activities to recognize businesses in Kansas for their contributions to their communities and to the state.
The planning commission will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. June 24 to discuss a proposal to close Washington Street from Grand south to A Street.
"The planning commission will not make any recommendations about the proposal," said city manager Steve Garrett. "The final decision rests with the city council."
The purpose of the public hearing is to give citizens the opportunity to express their concerns for or against closing the street and to ask questions.
The council went into executive session for 15 minutes to discuss acquisition of property.
No action was taken.
