Winners announced for spelling, geography bees
Goessel Elementary School will be sending Isaac Fast and Justine Plenert, both fifth graders, as its representatives to the county-wide spelling bee on Feb. 12 at the Hillsboro Middle School Auditorium. The alternate will be Jake Smucker, a fourth grader. These three were selected in a spelling bee for grades four through six at GES.
Those wishing to attend the Spelling Bee need to arrive before 10 a.m., as the doors will be shut once the contest begins.
Austin Unruh will be Goessel Elementary School's geography bee representative. Unruh was selected from a group of students in grades four thorugh eight. His next step will be to take an exam and if the score is high enough, he is invited to participate at the state level later this spring. Runners- up were Garrett Hiebert, an eighth grader, and Katie Bair, a fourth grader.
