Winners announced from summer reading program

The Hillsboro Public Library ended its Laugh It Up summer reading program last week. There were 73 children from ages three years to fifth grade who participated in the program.

The group read a total of 2,085 books. According to the children's librarian Delora Kaufman, many met their age-level reading goals, won laughing sticks, silly putty or snakes in a can, a Book-It pizza from Pizza Hut, and their choice of book. Her assistants for this year's reading program were Caitlin Reimer and Jacob Fish.

Winners of that contest were Elliot Ollenburger of the three to four year old group. He had a guess of 220 out of 216. Claire Heyen was the winner of the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten group. She guessed 305 out of 306. Amanda Penner was the winner of the first and second grade group guessed 340 out of 342. Elise Heyen was the winner of the third through fifth grade group. She guessed 452 out of 459. The winner were able to take home their bones.

A drawing was held among the children who reached their final reading goal to see who would win the right to ride in the library float at the Marion County Fair. Winners of the drawing were Abby Sechrist, Eli Weisbeck, Molly Wiebe, and Luke More, all of Hillsboro, Travis Unruh of Canton, and Kailyn Riffel of Tampa.
