Winners announced in summer reading program
The Summer Reading Program, led by Delora Kaufman, at Hillsboro Public Library ended last week after a six-week session. Eighty-nine children were enrolled, and 2,199 books were read.
Winners in the gumball machine guess were Rebecca Kaufman, 3 to 4-year-old class, guessing 189 out of 204 gumballs; Erin Wiebe, pre k/kindergarten, 167 out of 199; Brandon Bringhurst, 1st and 2nd grade class, 203 out of 226; and Matthew Wiebe, 3rd through 5th class, 230 out of 241. Each winner took home a gumball machine.
All children who reached the third goal of the reading program were eligible for a spot on the library float for the Marion County Fair parade. One name was drawn from each class. Those who won a spot on the float include AlexAnna Ratzlaff, Josiah Penner, Peter Walker, David Loewen, Tessa Isaac, Matt Reeh and Kiara Espada.
Gina Andrews, Jacob Fish and Caitlin Reimer helped with the reading program.
