Woman seriously injured in Indigo Road accident

An accident that took place Friday morning left a rural Peabody woman in serious condition when her car collided with a delivery truck on Indigo Road. The woman was expected to be released from the hospital this week.

Rebecca Kasper, 48, was headed south on Indigo when her 1999 Buick Century crossed the center line, according to Marion County Undersheriff Randy Brazil. Her car struck the left front tire area of the truck, knocking out the front axle of the truck.

Kasper's car bounced off the truck, spun around, and came to rest facing north in the east ditch. The accident took place between 70th and 80th roads, just three-tenths of a mile north of the Harvey County line.

The accident took place at 8:40 a.m., Brazil said, and law enforcement officials arrived at the scene at 9. They discovered that Kasper's left arm had been completely severed, and the left-front tire area of her vehicle was crushed in.

Officials called for the Lifeteam helicopter, and Kasper was evacuated to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita in serious condition.

She was set to be released from the hospital this week, Brazil said.

After the collision, the truck, owned by Drywall Systems of Wichita, slid to a stop in a ditch on the west side of the road. It had lost its axle and both wheels.

The driver of the truck, Eric Quandt of Wichita, and his passenger, Justin Saylor of Hutchinson, were not injured.

Officials from Peabody fire, Hillsboro ambulance and fire, the Hillsboro Police Department, and the Marion County Sheriff's Office were summoned to the scene. Additional personnel from Harvey County also came, Brazil said.

The officials blocked off traffic around the accident for a couple hours before letting cars through again, he said.
