Women's Workshop is Saturday
"Life: Fun, Fast and Fabulous" is this year's theme for the ninth annual Marion County Women's Wellness Workshop to be held Nov. 2 at Marion Elementary School, 1400 E. Lawrence.
Registration is at 8:30 a.m. Events include a keynote address at 9 a.m., three small-group sessions, lunch, and a closing session at 2 p.m. Door prizes provided by area agencies and businesses will be awarded.
Women choose to attend three out of 10 small group discussions.
Keynote speaker Jae Pierce-Baba, a professional speaker, writer, and comedienne, will lead a single session on each of the following topics:
— One Laugh is Worth a Thousand Nags: The Power of Humor in Parenting
— Up and At "EM": Preventing Hardening of the Attitudes in the Golden Years
— Celebrating Bountiful Women: Living Life with Humor, Passion, Energy and Grace
Other topics are:
— Let's Talk About It, led by Sandra Berg, a licensed professional Counselor at Prairie View, Inc. The session will explore positive and negative effects of "the gift of gab."
— Bosom Buddies: Lessons on Breast Health and Cancer, led by Kathleen Craig, RN, MSN, ARNP, and cancer outreach coordinator.
— Surviving the Everydayathon, by Linda Schmidt, from Education Services and Staff Development Associates of Central Kansas.
— Living, Loving, Laughing, by Sister Ann Cecile Gaume, M.A., personal development specialist with the Sisters of St. Joseph.
— Laughter: An Antidote for Pain, led by Jane Davis, Psy.D., clinical psychologist for Prairie View, Inc.
— Starting a Business: It Can Be a Real Riot, led by Lisa Brumbaugh, regional director at Emporia State University Small Business Development Center.
— It's Not Funny To Be Left Out In The Cold, led by Barbara Bunting, community liaison at Northview Developmental Services, Inc., Newton.
The workshop is free of charge. The noon lunch is funded by community contributions and will be catered by Melissa Bartel of Hillsboro.
Transportation is available upon request.
Pre-registration is preferred although walk-ins will be accepted. Information pamphlets with registration forms are available at various places throughout the county. Women also can register by calling the extension office at (620) 382-2325. The deadline is Friday.

Children's workshop
Women with babies and children can bring them along to attend their own workshop. It will be held at the school and will include games, puppets, videos, cooking, singing, crafts, and outdoor play (weather permitting).
Baby-sitting will be provided by Marion Girl Scout Cadette Troop. A morning snack will be provided by St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary and lunch by Marion Pizza Hut.
The children's workshop is coordinated by Nancy Pihl and Rachel Boden.
