Two silver-haired, genteel females rumbled down the main street in their aged coupe, made an illegal turn, and ignored the traffic cop's efforts to stop them. Catching up with them, he demanded angrily, "Didn't you hear my whistle?"
The octogenarian at the wheel glanced at him coyly, "Yes, I did officer," she said, "but I never flirt when I'm driving."
"You win lady," answered the cop, grinning. "Drive on."

Patti Mitchell, Margaret Morgan, and Margie Williams hosted a Valentine's Day party Tuesday at Town and Country Cafe at Florence.
Those present to help us celebrate were Reva Goodwin of Moundridge, Bertha Linnens and Chloe Triggs, both of Newton, Dorothy Scharenberg of Hillsboro, Hazel Clothier, Louise Shumate, Marge Jackson, Bev Reynolds, Dolores Mann, and Evone Allen, Mary Sauble, Jean Thompson, Lorene Magathan, Dollye Soyez, and Megan Turner, Georgia Lalouette, all of Cedar Point, Theresa Goodwin of Burns, Lenora Graham, Teresa Graham, Janice Shanklin, and Betty Inlow of Florence.
We appreciate each one who came to help us celebrate, Carolyn Spencer for decorating the tables, and Tammy Henton, our waitress.
Roger and Bev Reynolds visited Wednesday with their son, Darin Reynolds at Wichita.
Hazel Clothier met her daughter, Teresa Hill of Marion Friday for lunch at the Chuck Wagon at Florence.
Doni Rogers attended the monthly senior center luncheon Tuesday at Burns.
Bill Williams went Monday night to Haven with Will Soyez to see our grandson, Elliot's basketball game. His team won. Bill went Thursday night with Will to Wichita to see our daughter, Gayla Soyez's team play. They won their game.
Bill and Margie Williams' Saturday dinner guest was grandson, Carl Williams of Manhattan.
Hazel Clothier and Bill and Margie Williams attended a benefit soup supper Sunday evening for Gary Harper at the American Legion at Florence.
Amy Mitchell attended the basketball game Friday evening at Cottonwood Falls.
Margie Williams called Monday afternoon on Hazel Clothier.
