Writer's block can be a bugger
Staff writer
I remember our former editor of the Star-Journal and our present managing director of Hoch Publishing writing about having writer's block and not having anything to write about.
Well, I am experiencing that right now, and I only write a column five or six times a year, not every week!
I did want to write about the lack of cell phone reception in the Hillsboro area, but I understand that will cease pretty shortly. So, I guess I'll leave that subject matter alone and not relate my rather trivial story about not being able to get through to the police department while coming into Hillsboro.

As many writers have been writing this past month — we are experiencing some gorgeous weather here in south central Kansas.
Pastor Lyndon Decker wrote about the beauty of God's nature in his pastoral column in last week's issue.
I have witnessed a few beautiful and spectacular sunrises and sunsets, as well as a few illustrious landscape scenes driving on 13-mile road. (Oh, excuse me, Indigo).
Even the cloud formations with the sun glistening through them have been awesome at times.
I went to the park to eat my lunch the other day and just observed the squirrels frolicking and playing on the ground and then scampering up and down the multi-colored trees.
I saw parents and grandparents bringing children to the park to play on the playground equipment or just strolling through the park.
It brought back some memories of when I was a stay-at-home mom and our kids and I used to come to the park.
I have to admit, a few tears came to my eyes.
While there, I saw a grandfather teaching a young boy how to go down the slide. It warmed my heart to see the meaningful, positive, and wholesome interaction between the generations.
Viewing and thinking about these things made me wonder why people doubt that there even is a God.

It's hard to believe that the year 2003 is almost over. I went into a department store the other day, and the Christmas decorations were already up. I'm not much of a Christmas shopper, so having stores advertise and display Christmas items already did not impress me very much.
So, early Christmas shoppers dive on in and for those like me who aren't big on shopping, just grin and bear it — because that's the way we'll have to be until the season is over.
