Zelma 'Sally' Penner
Zelma "Sally" Penner, 85, of North Newton died Feb. 23, 2004, at Kidron Bethel Health Care in North Newton.
Born July 21, 1918, at Henderson, Neb., she was the daughter of Gerhard George and Susanna (Blinn Penner) Goertzen.
On Jan. 3, 1945, she married Wilbert Penner in Alexandria, Va. He preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and worked in retail sales. She was a member of Bethel College Mennonite Church of North Newton.
She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, gardening, and reading.
Survivors include daughters, Barbara and Robert W. Esau of Beatrice, Neb., and Patricia and Ronnie Hinds of Bozeman, Mont.; son, Douglas and Raylene (Hinz) Penner of Topeka; sister, Matilda and Calvin Braun of Keizer, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held today at Bethel College Mennonite Church with Pastor Heidi Regier Kreider and Pastor Norma Johnson officiating. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials have been established with Bethel College Mennonite Church and Kidron Bethel Retirement Services.
