The city schools are getting well under in the work of the first term. The enrollment is pretty complete now, and we are giving the complete enrollment at the High School: 16 seniors; 43 juniors; 51 sophomores; and 52 freshmen.

Some difficulty is being experienced in keeping auto drivers from parking their cars near the city fire plugs. The ordinance is that no car can be parked within ten feet of a hydrant. Better watch this the next time you leave your car at the curbing.

District No. 62, known as Beauty of the West, has improved its school property greatly by the erection of two sanitary, cemented out buildings and a new coal house with a cement floor. The buildings are well painted and improve the appearance of the school grounds.

All veterans of the late war who wish to secure their Victory Medals should write at once to the Post Adjutant, Wm. N. Carney, for application blanks. The medals are available, without cost, to anyone who served during the war.

The “Hike” given by the Guild of the Federated churches was a grand success. There were 85 or 90 young women in attendance. The “hike” was to the old Butterfield park where supper was served and a fine time was enjoyed beside the campfire. Mrs. E.R. Dean told a story, songs were sung, and a general good time was had.

A reception, given in honor of the young women of the community, was given Sept. 7 at the home of Mrs. Byron Stout and was well attended, seventy-five being present. The porch was lighted by a spray of colored electric lights, also Japanese lanterns. At a late hour, refreshments of pineapple sherbet and wafers were served.
