It was the most successful event yet for Marion County Firefighter Association. Fireworks and family-oriented activities were offered Sunday afternoon at Marion County Lake. In the end, the organization made $7,400 from the larger than usual crowd.

Two former Marion County residents met recently at a convention in Washington. Marion Socolofsky of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Margaret (Reznicek) Kern of Maryland met while attending the American Public Garden Association convention in July and discovered they were from Marion County.

Marion High School Warriors won their season opener, 14-2, at Halstead. Sheldon Boone is pictured as he tackles a Halstead Dragon at the game Friday at Halstead. Boone rushed for 28 yards and scored a touchdown in the third quarter.

The Prairie Wranglers performed Sunday evening for a large crowd in downtown Florence during the town’s annual Labor Day celebration. Cottonwood Valley Bank sponsored the event, which drew an estimated 900 people.

Residents across the nation are being encouraged to fly their flags Tuesday in observance of Patriot’s Day, to honor those who lost their lives six years ago on 9/11.
