Land donation
To the editor:
The Record recently reported on the land transaction between Marion Advancement Campaign and Greg and Dina Vogel.
Many land transactions are listed in the newspaper each week, and I wish to express my gratitude to the newspaper for recognizing the significance of this transaction and reporting on it. I would have liked to express these sentiments in the article, but I missed the publishing deadline with my response to your paper’s attempt to contact me.
MAC was very grateful for the donation of that land by the Vogel family when it occurred. That gift to our local community foundation remains one of the largest undirected gifts made to the organization.
When it was determined that there was inadequate support for building a new community center on the site, the land remained an asset for the foundation.
Unfortunately, there have been limited options or interest expressed to translate that asset into good for the community. We are very grateful to Greg and Dina for their interest in helping MAC convert their family’s gift of land from a non-liquid asset into a form that can be more easily used to benefit our community.
Thank you again to the Vogels for their stewardship of the land over the past years and to the Record for recognizing the significance of this transaction and the benefits that it can bring to our community.
I encourage any community members with suggestions for projects our community foundation should be involved with to contact me or another board member.
Matt Meyerhoff, MAC chairman
