The dog days of summer are with us. Scorching triple-digit temperatures were felt this past weekend, and forecasts are that this is only the beginning of a long hot-and-dry spell.

Marion students recently named to the dean’s honor roll at Wichita State University for the spring semester are Chelsea Arnhold, Molly Rhodes, and Glenda Webster.

Cottonwood Valley 11-year-old all stars won a District IV tournament July 7 to 9 in Newton. Members of the team include Christian Gard, Jacob Harper, Ethan Hett, Jordan Hett, Patrick McCarty, Tommy Morris, Hunter Pickens, Austin Savage, Ray Savage, Hunter Scott, Wes Shaw, and Alex Wiens.

Zan Fine is pictured holding a conjoined cucumber from the garden of his grandfather, Alex Hayes of Florence. The vegetable is 10 inches in diameter and came from one vine.

Births announced this week include Sienna Belle Jones, daughter of Savannah Killough and Brent Jones of Woodward, Oklahoma, born July 6, and Jerrid Ronald Whitwell, son of Josh and Clark Whitwell, born July 12.
