Wheat harvest ’94 is neither a bumper crop nor a poor one. Marion’s Cooperative Grain and Supply reported that Mick Summervill brought in the first load at 3:06 p.m. Monday.

Rebecca Collett, Mandy Inlow, and Kay Lynn Summervill represented Marion High School June 5 to 11 at Girls State on the campus of the University of Kansas at Lawrence.

Fishing and hunting columnist Bill Harmon reports in his “Fish Tales” that after 32 years, Charles Schmidtberger has retired from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. Schmidtberger was supervisor for 13 counties for 10 of those years.

The Marion Police Department reminds everyone that sidewalks on Main St. between Lincoln and Walnut Sts. are to be used only for walking. Bicycles, skateboards, or other vehicles are banned from operating on sidewalks in the business district.

Bill Edmunds of Marion is Amy Smith’s choice this week for a person who made a difference in his or her community. In addition to other occupations, he was sexton for 27 years at Marion Cemetery, keeping the grounds immaculate and attractive.
