Good news dominated the Marion City Commission meeting Monday afternoon.

Mayor Peggy Blackman announced that the federal government had approved a portion of the town’s pre-application for a community development grant.

The grant would be for new water mains and rehabilitation of housing in the valley portion of town.

Jackie Richmond was crowned 1980 queen of courts before the homecoming game Friday. Her escort was Warrior senior forward Doug Webb. Attendants Lori Hett and Janice Wiens were escorted by Brian Allen and Kevin McGahee.

The Marionettes Chapter of the National Campers and Hikers Association met Jan. 19 at the Owl Car Café. Summer camping plans were discussed. Members attending were the Jack Bowyers, Junior Bredemeiers, Dean Dukes, Morris N. Ehrlichs, Roger Giesbrechts, and Ralph Mathews.

Marion Ogden’s 6th grade students enjoyed a Mexican fiesta Thursday that included a spicy feast, various games, a costume contest, and a pink flamingo piñata.

Winners in the costume contest were Michael Bina and Tonya Johnson. Isabel Christina Medina and Roger Hudlin placed second.
