After several months of hard work by local citizens and with the fullest cooperation of the City Commission and other officials, the dreams of many will be fulfilled when a modern new 50-bed skilled nursing home is constructed in Marion this fall. Construction is expected to start within two weeks.

Patricia Edmonds, Kansas State University coed from Peabody, received the coveted Kansas Dairy Princess crown for 1966 Saturday night on the Kansas State Fair grandstand stage.

The first horse sale in years in this vicinity has been set for the late afternoon of Old Settlers’ Day. Sponsored by the Cottonwood Valley Saddle Horse Association, it will be held at the Marion Sales Pavilion. The animals will include colts, yearlings, and older horses.

Girl Scout Susan Marler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman of Marion, received the first “God and Community Award” ever presented in Marion County during the Sunday morning worship service at the Marion Christian Church.

The newly remodeled Fina service station at the corner of East Main and Freeborn streets in Marion is now open for business. Mack Bruce of Salina has leased the station from K-T Oil Corporation of El Dorado and will move to Marion as soon as he can find a house.

Den IV of Cub Scout Troop 102 enjoyed a field trip to the courthouse Monday afternoon. The visit concluded with a trip to the clock tower which the group greatly enjoyed especially when the clock struck 5 o’clock.
