About 400 hungry men enjoyed the thick delicious steaks at the 1966 version of Marion’s now traditional “Farm-City Banquets,” sponsored by the Marion Chamber of Commerce Monday at Marion City Building.”

The big, tender, charcoal- broiled steaks were cooked to perfection (about 125 every 15 minutes), by Chefs Don Spangler, Les Griffith, and John Just.

Men came from all parts of the county — from as far as beyond Ramona, Durham, Goessel, Lehigh, Peabody, and Burns.

The K-State Singers made a hit, providing a full hour program of song and dances following the meal.

Bids on the proposed new athletic stadium for the Marion school system were opened Tuesday afternoon, and all were rejected. Bids ranged from $124,000 to $160,000. Six firms bid on the project that was estimated at $82,000. It is hoped that use of alternates will allow the project to come within the estimate that cannot be exceeded.

Vernon J. David, young Marion countian, is shown in his farm workshop with one of the tiny, entirely new principle electric motors he has invented. The “Mystery Motor” is pictured on the cover of the December issue of “Mechanix Illustrated,” a popular leading national magazine in this field.

Helen Rogers received $50 Wednesday in this week’s Cash Day drawing. Jake Hein, Tampa, missed $5; Mrs. Glen Taylor, Marion, missed $5; Johanna Kaiser, Lincolnville, received $20; and Mrs. Jacob Oblander, Marion, received $20. Next week’s first place winner will receive $50.
