Groundbreaking exercises for the new Evangelical United Brethren Church will be this Sunday evening, according to pastor G. Carol Gilbert. The groundbreaking will be in what is slated to be in Eastmoor Addition to Marion.

The Vestring brothers (Jim, Bob, and Jack) of Burns have purchased controlling interest in the Burns State Bank, it was announced the week. C.L. Brunner will remain as president of the bank.

Cheryl Cox, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. James Cox, celebrated her seventh birthday Saturday with a cookout at the Marion County Lake. Guests were Teresa Case, Lisa Holmes, Kendra Lundgren, Paula Mayginnes, Karen Pankratz, Cynthia Swain, Jeanne Widler, Becky Wood, and Chris Vogt.

Marion City Commission will open bids Monday night for a new water tower proposed to be constructed in the southwest corner of the athletic field.

Garry Klose, 13-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Klose, was pitched from a horse Thursday and sustained a compound fracture of his arm near the elbow.
