State approval was received this week of plans for a Marion County Welfare Department office building. That cleared the way for announcement of details of the building on the Courthouse grounds by the county commissioners and the Welfare Department.

Marion City Commission this week awarded a contract for the new storage tank addition to the city’s water system. Construction is to begin right away.

Excavation almost got ahead of ground-breakers this week in a fast start at the site of a new office building being erected on S. Coble St. The 110 by 40 foot reinforced concrete block building is being built by the Marion Industrial Development Corp., a private development group of Marion businessmen.

Members of the fifth grade Sunday school class of the Evangelical United Brethren Church attended a swimming party followed by refreshments in the park Aug. 13. Those present were teacher Ruby Winkley, Anita Hett, Shirley Helmer, Donna Ewert, Janet Hein, Sandy Turner, Vickie Boese, Kathy Coe, Susan Seibel, Diana Franklin, Jack Goentzel, Mike Schwendiman, Terry Conyers, Terry Plenert, Mike Regnier, and Dick Carr.

Top winners in an American Legion golf tourney Sunday at Marion Country Club were Ennis Unruh, first; James Kline, second; and George Higgins, third. Rosse B. Case was medalist, Robert Hoover was closest to the pin, and Wilbert Rindt had the longest drive.
