Wheat harvest started this week in Marion County with at least 8,000 bushels rolling into elevators at Tampa and Durham. However, rains Wednesday night have postponed harvest over the entire area for about two days.

A crew of men and a large, heavy-duty bulldozer moved into the Marion Reservoir area this week and went to work with initial clearing work in preparation for the first phase construction of the flood control and water conservation dam on the Cottonwood River.

Max Buck has been appointed city treasurer and will begin his new assignment June 15. The commission also has hired Lowell Ensey and Tom Berry to work on the utilities and street crew during summer months.

Pictures of officials and other people of importance in the early days of Marion County have lined the walls of the courthouse for some time. They have now been removed from their frames and placed in plastic envelopes in a large album that will remain on display on the first floor of the courthouse.

Mickey Wayne Summervill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Summervill, has accepted a teaching job in the Kansas City school system for the 1964-’65 school term.
