Former Marion resident W.R. (Curly) Wolfinbarger, of Winter Haven, Florida, a retired major general will the Air Force, will be featured speaker Thursday, Oct. 1, at Old Settlers Day in Marion
Another convenience for Marion shoppers was put into service this week with the opening of a free public parking lot on N. 5th St. just north of Schroeder Produce and the Main St. bridge. This is the first of several such lots planned for the downtown business area.
As anticipated, student enrollment in Marion schools continued a steady increase noted over the past several years. The total enrolled the first day of school was 715 students, 16 more than at the same time last year.
C.J. Ross, clerk of the district court for the past nine years, resigned from his position last week. Geraldine Seibel was appointed by Judge Walter E. Hembrow to fill the unexpired term.
Flora McKibbin of Marion was notified this week that she has won a new Norge refrigerator in a “Heart’s Desire” sweepstakes sponsored by Staley Manufacturing Co. Hers was one of 270 winners selected in a contest promoting Sta-Flo Starch and Sta-Puf fabric softener.
