Cottonwood Valley Babe Ruth all stars are entered in the state Babe Ruth tournament in McPherson this week as the result of winning their regional last weekend at Cottonwood Falls.

The team was picked from those who played at the regional. It includes John Phillips, catcher, and Bruce Gibbs, first base and pitcher, from Cottonwood Falls and Gary Melcher, left field, from Marion.

To make way for Marion Reservoir, a cemetery at Bruderthal church, officially called the Ebenezer Cemetery, is being moved to a new location about a mile east of Hillsboro on US-56.

Patrons of Marion Unified School District will vote Aug. 2 on whether to build a new stadium and make other improvements at the athletic field.

Mike Wood set a modern course record Tuesday at Marion Country Club when he carded a nine-hole 29, six strokes under par. The feat was witnessed by his father, Earl Wood.

Pilsen Polkateers, a group of musicians between ages 12 and 16, gave their first public performance Sunday evening in the old Pilsen church hall.

Organized by Florian Makovec, the band includes Mark Hajek, Joe Meysing, Danny Rudolph, Gene Shramek, Christy Silhan, Gary Steiner, Kenny Steiner, Terry Stroda, Tommy Stroda, Ronnie Vinduska, and Terry Vinduska.
