Memorial services for Pfc. Jack Herzet, who was killed in action in Korea, will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Christian Church with Dr. E.N. Duty officiating. Jack, son of Mrs. Dixie Herzet, is the first Marion fatality in the Korean conflict. He had been listed as missing in action for over a year before definite word of his death was received.

A large crowd of Marion fans traveled to Wichita Friday night and saw Coach “Irish” Ireland’s all-victorious Warriors blaze their way to another win, this one over Planeview, 21-6. Roberts made two TDs, Christensen made one, and McKibbin made three placekicks.

Highlights of the game included several injuries, a fist fight, play on a muddy field, beautiful aerial attack, some slugging and dirty plays with red flags all over the field and other interesting antics.

Contrary to the impression left by a Wichita daily paper, the fight at the game was not in any way connected to the Marion team. The fight was between two Wichita men, and no Marionite was involved.

The first block on South Third Street is about back to normal again. Everett Burkhead’s popcorn and candy stand has been renovated and is back in operation again as of this week. The stand was placed there last year by the Blind Division of the State Welfare Department and was turned over to Everett to operate as his own business.

Impressive ceremonies were conducted Sunday afternoon at the laying of the cornerstone for the new St. Mark Catholic Church. Placed in a copper cylinder which was cemented into the cornerstone was a number of papers and documents telling of the setting up of the parish and other important historical facts.
