Elgin Hotel, a Marion landmark since the boom days of the 1890s, was sold this week by Mrs. A.J. Sparks to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lundgren of Salina. The new owners will take over management March 1.
Eagle scout, the highest award in boy scouting, was presented to three boys from Marion Troop 102 at an impressive court of honor last week. The boys are Michael Seaton, Junior Wiebe, and Earl Winter.
M and H Recreation, operated here for several years by Mr. and Mrs. Harry House, has been sold to C.C. Cooper of Wichita. The Houses had just completed installation of four bowling alleys at their pool hall in the YMCA building when everything was destroyed by a disastrous fire in 1954.
Mary Lou Conyers, popular Marion High School junior, was crowned queen of the court Friday evening. Her three attendants were Margie Bernhardt, Nancy Keazer, and Kay Navrat.
Larry Gene Heidel asked several school friends Monday to help him celebrate his eighth birthday after school. Guests included Wally Bledsoe, Norman Bowers, Charles Hedrick, Vernon Kelsey, Wayne King, Steve Knalson, Bobby May, John Schmersey, Lonny Stage, and Maurice Williams.
