SHERIFF
190th Rd. east of Nighthawk Rd.
Alexis C. Davis, 21, McPherson, hit a deer at 1:52 p.m. May 5 with a 2023 Chevrolet Malibu, according to one of six accident reports released Friday by the sheriff’s department.
The Malibu, owned by Colton T. Gossen of the driver’s address, remained drivable with damage to its left front and hood.
US-56/77 north of 1st St., Lincolnville
A Centre schools driver was injured at 3:45 p.m. May 5 after another driver, unable to see the dirt-covered taillights of her school van as it slowed to turn left, rear-ended the van, pushing it off the road and into a gas meter.
Gayle Whitely, 54, Lincolnville, was examined by medics but not taken to a hospital by ambulance.
Three schoolchildren were in the van at the time — Nessa Donahue, 9; Molly Donahue, 6; and McKinley Carpenter, 7, all of rural Lincolnville.
Deputy Douglas Calam’s report blames the wreck on both the obscured taillights and on the other driver, Steven McCune, 59, rural Halstead, following too closely. No tickets were listed as being issued.
McCune’s 2015 Toyota Rav4 and the school’s 2018 Ford Transit sustained disabling damage and were towed.
The Toyota’s entire front half, windshield, and undercarriage were damaged. Both the front third and the rear third of the school’s van along with its undercarriage, windshield, and other windows were damaged.
US-50 east of Remington Rd.
John H. Shriver, 60, Pratt, hit a deer at 6:14 a.m. May 9 with his 2017 Ford F-150, which then ran off the road to the right.
Betty L. Slief, 62, of the same address was a passenger in the pickup. It sustained disabling damage to its front third and undercarriage and was towed.
K-15 south of 220th Rd.
Amanda L. Knoll, 34, Beatrice, Nebraska, hit a deer at 8:11 p.m. May 9 with her Mazda CX5. It sustained disabling damage to its front, began smoking, and was towed.
Passengers included Robert L. Hall IV, 35; Robert L. Hall V, 8; and Harper G. Knoll, 7, all of the driver’s address.
US-50 east of 110th Rd.
Todd A. Liedtke, 60, Rock Island, Illinois, hit a deer at 10:22 p.m. May 13 with a 2025 Chevrolet Trax.
The sport-utility vehicle, owned by Ean Holdings of Tulsa, sustained disabling damage to its front and was towed.
120th Rd. west of Alamo Rd.
Ryder Boese, 13, rural Goessel, was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, after a bicycle he was riding collided at 7:22 a.m. Friday with a Funk Electric van driven by Garrett M. Schmidt, 29, Newton.
Deputy Landis Goodman’s report blames the wreck on Ryder inattentively exiting a driveway without realizing Schmidt’s van was coming.
Both unsuccessfully attempted to avoid each other, the van crossing the road’s center line in the process.
The van, a 2014 Chevrolet Express, remained drivable with damage to its left front and hood.
HILLSBORO
Alley in 100 block of S. Main St.
Koren J. Pawloski, 17, Hillsboro, backed his 2001 Chevrolet Blazer out of a parking space near the city splash pad at 12:10 p.m. May 11 and into a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado legally parked across the alley behind Legacy Eye Care.
The left front fender of the Silverado, owned by Luella K. Cochran of Marion, was damaged. The Blazer sustained damage to its center rear.
No tickets were listed as being issued.
