Beef show helps youths practice for competition

Staff writer

A beef show for 4-H’ers and FFA members March 29 at Marion County fairgrounds will offer an opportunity to practice showmanship and possibly win a cash prize.

Extension agent Rickey Roberts said the show doesn’t qualify exhibitors to move up the show chain.

“The show doesn’t qualify them for something bigger,” Roberts said. “It is for the experience or practice.”

Contestants might want to show their cattle at their county fair.

“This is another step to help them get ready for that,” Roberts said. “It’s good for the kid and the creature both. They both learn from the experience.”

Roberts said several such shows happen across the state. Harvey County has a show March 28, making it convenient to show Saturday in Harvey County and Sunday in Hillsboro.

Pre-entry fee is $20 a head; show day fee is $25 a head; Marion County 4-H members entry fee is $10 an exhibitor.

Grand champion wins $250 cash.
