A wrongful death suit, originally filed Sept. 15, 2022, in Marion County District Court by Kathy Parrish on her own behalf and that of her grandchildren, was transferred back from Sedgwick County District Court after Parrish reached a settlement with the city of Marion but before her claims against Marion County and the sheriff’s office were resolved. A Sedgwick County judge ruled Sept. 20 that the venue would properly be in Marion County. The case arose from the suicide of Parrish’s daughter, Julie Starks, while she was incarcerated in the Marion County jail. Although it has been refiled in Marion County under a new case number, no new documents have been filed.

Eddie J. Farner was ordered Jan. 24 to pay Tampa Townhomes $2,400 plus costs for failing to pay rent.
