COVID cases soar to 8-month high

This week’s 39 new COVID-19 diagnoses represent the highest weekly count since Jan. 10.

There were 34 new cases in the week that ended last Monday, 15 the week before that, 16 three weeks ago, 21 four weeks ago, 28 five weeks ago, and 23 six weeks ago.

Tabor College, Goessel elementary school, and Hillsboro elementary school are listed this week by Kansas Department of Health and Environment as COVID cluster locations.

Tabor College has had 25 cases in the last 14 days, with the last onset date Sept. 27.

Goessel elementary school has had six cases in the last 14 days, with the last onset date Sept. 27.

Hillsboro elementary school has had six cases with the last onset date Sept. 28.

Marion may not be far behind.

A new state data table shows 15 Hillsboro students were diagnosed with COVID between Sept. 16 and 29, six were diagnosed at Goessel, five at Marion, and one each at Centre and Peabody-Burns.

Among the county’s 27 COVID deaths, reports of which may be delayed by several weeks or months, nine were female and 18 male. The three most recent deaths were added to the list Aug. 29, Sept. 15, and Sept. 27. Those deaths followed a lull from Feb. 14.
