Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
2:14 a.m. — A 78-year-old woman unable to get out of bed in the 400 block of S. Freeborn St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke Hospital by Marion ambulance.
9:33 a.m. — A woman in her 20s who was found semi-conscious, lying on the ground in a parking lot at Country Inn motel in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
1:33 p.m. — A patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, to Parkside Homes, Hillsboro.
9:04 p.m. — A 32-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
3:14 a.m. — A 64-year-old man with catheter problems was transferred by Peabody ambulance from Peabody Health and Rehab to Newton Medical Center. Almost back in quarters, the ambulance turned around, went back to Newton, and picked up the patient to return him to Peabody Health and Rehab.
11:41 a.m. — A 32-year-old woman who told dispatchers she was unable to walk by herself from her porch back into her residence in the 1400 block of Denver St. in Marion was helped by Marion ambulance attendants.
1:03 p.m. — An 89-year-old man who fell early in the morning at Bethesda Home in Goessel was taken to Moundridge Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
8:48 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance shuttled a Hillsboro Community Hospital patient between the hospital and an air ambulance at Hillsboro airport.
11:13 p.m. — A smoke alarm at Tabor College townhouses was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been caused by a minor cooking mishap.
9:32 p.m. — A 68-year-old woman with abnormal breathing was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from the 800 block of Barker St. in Florence. Florence first responders were paged but did not answer the call.
12:54 p.m. — A combative 95-year-old woman with low blood pressure was taken by Hillsboro ambulance from Salem Home to HCH.
7:25 p.m. — Marion ambulance, which had been standing by during Marion High School’s football game against Douglass, transported to St. Luke a patient evaluated as being in a potentially life-threatening condition. No further information was broadcast.
1:29 a.m. — A 48-year-old man with low blood sugar outside Homestead Senior Residences, Marion, was treated by emergency medical technicians from Marion ambulance and the ambulance service’s shift supervisor. Monitored radio transmissions do not indicate whether the patient was taken to a hospital.
1:30 a.m. — A 15-year-old girl with an unspecified medical condition was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to St. Francis. The shift supervisor delayed the ambulance’s departure by 25 minutes until treatment of the patient outside Homestead Senior Residences could be completed.
1:31 p.m. — Marion ambulance was dispatched to St. Luke to help hospital workers lift a patient.
4:24 p.m. — Peabody ambulance helped establish intravenous fluids for a Peabody Health and Rehab patient who then declined to be taken to a hospital.
5:34 p.m. — A man in his 70s who fell at Marion Assisted Living was taken to Newton Med by Marion ambulance.
6:46 p.m. — A woman in her 90s who had been vomiting for several days at a residence in the 100 block of W. Scott St. in Burns was taken to Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, El Dorado, by Peabody ambulance. Burns first responders and the ambulance shift supervisor assisted on the call.
8:07 p.m. — A 34-year-old woman who fell from a horse and injured her ankle west of Mustang Rd. on 40th Rd. was treated by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. Dispatchers initially assigned the call to Peabody ambulance, but it had not yet returned from El Dorado. Monitored transmissions do not indicate to which hospital the patient may have been taken.
5 a.m. — At the request of Hillsboro police, Marion ambulance attendants drew blood of an inmate at the county jail.
12:19 p.m. — A ditch fire near 190th and Limestone Rds. was quickly extinguished by Hillsboro firefighters.
2:08 p.m. — A man whose wife told dispatchers she thought he was having a stroke was taken from the 100 block of E. B St. in Hillsboro to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance was diverted by Newton Med and St. Francis while en route.
4:23 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to a St. Francis. Supervisors briefly considered redirecting Marion or Peabody ambulances to a subsequent call in Hillsboro but went to that call themselves and waited for Hillsboro ambulance to arrive a few minutes later.
4:31 p.m. — A 72-year-old man with chest and stomach pains at Oakwood Apartments in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Ambulance supervisors arrived before the ambulance, which was still en route back from Wichita when the call came in.
6:52 a.m. — Thermal imaging by Marion firefighters revealed no problems after a fire alarm sounded, apparently because an electrical appliance had overheated, at St. Luke.
5:13 p.m. — A baler on fire at a farm near US-56 and Alamo Rd. was extinguished in less than an hour by Hillsboro and Lehigh firefighters.
8:13 p.m. — A 62-year-old man who pulled his semi-trailer truck to the side of US-56/77 near 240th Rd. after suffering what he thought might be a stroke was taken to Wesley by Marion ambulance. The ambulance was diverted there from St. Luke, Newton Med, and St. Francis.
