Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JAN. 3

9:45 a.m. — A fire alarm at Tabor College townhomes was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been caused by dust from construction.

12:30 p.m. — An 81-year-old woman who slid out of bed and hurt her leg at a house in the 700 block of W. Grand Ave. in Hillsboro was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance.

3:38 p.m. — An 80-year-old woman whose medical problem at a home near 210th and Yarrow Rds. was garbled on newspaper scanners was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

JAN. 4

1:54 a.m. — An uninjured 78-year-old man who fell at a house in the 100 block of W. 6th St. in Florence was helped up by medics from Marion ambulance. He declined to be taken to a hospital. Florence first responders were paged but did not answer.

9:44 a.m. — A 54-year-old man who reportedly had suffered a heart attack was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 11:45 a.m.

11:37 p.m. — A 73-year-old woman with hip pain after falling four hours earlier at Oakwood Manor Apartments in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:03 p.m. — An 86-year-old man complaining of possible bronchitis at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:19 p.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance still at Salem Home, Marion ambulance took to HCH a 78-year-old manwho was reported to be unresponsive at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.

THURSDAY

5:34 a.m. — A 41-year-old woman with low blood sugar at a residence in the 100 block of E. 9th St. in Florence declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

8:21 a.m. — An 83-year-old woman, who at one time was unresponsive, was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC Health from a farmhouse on the Marion/McPherson county line. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer. The ambulance returned to its station at 10:47 a.m.

4:08 p.m. — A helicopter ambulance transported a patient from St. Luke to the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

5:38 p.m. — A 78-year-old man, initially reported as being uninjured after falling at a residence in the 600 block of N. Elm St. in Peabody, was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. A first responder aboard Peabody ambulance also answered the call. Hillsboro ambulance returned to its station at 7:21 p.m.

7:16 p.m. — A briefly unresponsive 49-year-old man having a diabetic reaction in the 1200 block of Denver St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

FRIDAY

9:53 a.m. — A 75-year-old man not feeling well at a farmhouse near 240th and Indigo Rds. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

2:56 p.m. — A 91-year-old man with trouble breathing after possibly aspirating food at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health by Peabody ambulance.

SATURDAY

7:50 a.m. — A lethargic 81-year-old woman at Salem Home was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:03 p.m. — A 52-year-old man, reportedly unconscious and not breathing at a residence in the 100 block of S. Cedar St. in Hillsboro, was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Marion ambulance and Hillsboro first responders initially were dispatched but called off.

SUNDAY

8:02 a.m. — An 88-year-old man who would not respond after earlier treatment for a fall was taken by Hillsboro ambulance from Peabody Health and Rehab to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9:57 p.m.

6:07 p.m. — Peabody firefighters quickly dealt with a report of leaking anhydrous ammonia near downtown Peabody.

6:55 p.m. — A 48-year-old man having trouble breathing, possibly because of anxiety, in the 100 block of S. Cedar St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Marion ambulance initially responded as well but was quickly called off.

MONDAY

7 p.m. — A possibly dehydrated 78-year-old man was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.
