Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
OCT. 29
12:47 a.m. — A 45-year-old woman with chest pains at a residence in the 500 block of Lawrence St. in Durham was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Tampa ambulance.
5:46 p.m. — A 70-year-old man who fell in the 100 block of S. Wilson St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters helped lift the patient.
10:28 p.m. — A 79-year-old woman who fell at a residence in the 800 block of W. Grand Ave. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro police and firefighters helped ambulance attendants get into the residence.
OCT. 30
12:13 a.m. — An 80-year-old man who fell at a farmhouse near 130th and Kanza Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance and instead opted to go by private vehicle.
4:04 a.m. — A 79-year-old woman with pneumonia was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 7:08 a.m.
3:29 p.m. — A coroner was called for an unresponsive 65-year-old man at a residence in the 100 block of S. Wilson St. in Hillsboro after Hillsboro ambulance attendants and firefighters were dispatched but learned the patient had a do-not-resuscitate order on file.
3:46 p.m. — An arcing power line in the 100 block of S. Summit St. in Goessel was monitored by Goessel firefighters for 30 minutes until Evergy workers arrived.
3:48 p.m. — A possibly septic 55-year-old man at Westview Manor in Peabody was transferred to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
4:19 p.m. — A diabetic 60-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a home in the 600 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance after returned from Newton. Hillsboro ambulance also responded. Tampa ambulance briefly was dispatched as well.
5:28 p.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a patient from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 8:03 p.m.
5:43 p.m. — With Marion ambulance headed to Wichita, Hillsboro ambulance was asked by a Marion police officer to check scratches on a person at the Marion police station. No resolution of the call was recorded.
5:57 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was told by telephone instead of radio to go to Parkside Homes to transfer an unspecified patient to St. Francis.
6:04 p.m. — Tampa ambulance was assigned to stand by at the Hillsboro ambulance station until 8:44 p.m. in case additional calls came in.
6:22 p.m. — A transformer fire on an electric pole on Remington Rd. between 170th and 180th Rds. was extinguished within 50 minutes by Marion firefighters.
6:51 p.m. — Returning from Wichita, Marion ambulance told dispatchers to delay transfer of a 60-year-old woman with low blood sugar from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, until Hillsboro ambulance returned to the county. St. Luke reminded dispatchers of the call at 8:04 p.m. Marion ambulance reported to St. Luke at 8:29 p.m. and stood by until Hillsboro ambulance returned to the county at 8:40 p.m. Marion ambulance then completed the transfer, returning to the county at 11:27 p.m.
8:59 p.m. — Not yet back at its station, Hillsboro ambulance was sent along with Hillsboro first responders to the 200 block of S. Adams St. where an 83-year-old man fell and hit his head on a table. The ambulance took him to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 11:44 p.m.
9:31 p.m. — Tampa ambulance once again was called to stand by in Hillsboro, this time until 11:30 p.m.
THURSDAY
1:22 a.m. — Marion ambulance attendants helped Marion Assisted Living staff lift a 102-year-old woman there. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
5:19 a.m. — An uninjured 80-year-old woman unable to get up after a fall at a residence in the 200 block of S. Lincoln St. in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
7:24 a.m. — A 71-year-old woman with abdominal pain at a home in the 200 block of E. Main St. in Lehigh was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Marion ambulance briefly responded as well.
11:47 a.m. — An 89-year-old woman suffering respiratory distress after choking on a popcorn ball at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
12:45 p.m. — An 82-year-old woman who fell and cut her forehead at Peabody Health and Rehab was transferred to NMC Health by Marion ambulance, which volunteered to handle the call instead of Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 2:38 p.m.
1:08 p.m. — With Marion ambulance in Peabody, Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched for a 69-year-old woman who fell and hurt her arm at a residence in the 400 block of Locust St. in Marion. She was taken to St. Luke.
5:49 p.m. — An 89-year-old woman in respiratory distress, possibly the same patient transferred from Salem Home, was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to St. Francis. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 8:19 p.m.
FRIDAY
6:34 p.m. — A 71-year-old woman with cardiac blockage was transferred on an emergency basis from St. Luke to Wesley by Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 9:12 p.m.
6:35 p.m. — With Marion ambulance heading to Wichita, Tampa ambulance was paged to stand by until 7:47 p.m. at a football game in Marion. Only one emergency medical technician was available, so the ambulance was designated a first-response unit.
6:57 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance stood by until 9:31 p.m. at a football game in Hillsboro.
9:51 p.m. — An 86-year-old man with traumatic injuries from a fall was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to St. Francis. The ambulance returned to Marion at 12:15 a.m.
SATURDAY
12:17 a.m. — A 73-year-old woman with newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health. Hillsboro ambulance attendants volunteered to respond instead of Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 2:03 a.m.
Noon — A 73-year-old woman suffering seizures at a home in the 200 block of W. Union St. in Lost Springs declined to be taken to a hospital by the county’s backup ambulance, dispatched from Marion. Tampa ambulance also was dispatched. A private nurse already was at the house, and the patient opted to go to a hospital by privately owned vehicle instead of ambulance. Lincolnville first responders were paged but did not answer.
SUNDAY
1:36 a.m. — Marion ambulance and Florence firefighters were dispatched to a traffic accident at 120th and Vista Rds. after an accident reporting service told dispatchers that a car carrying three people, none of whom reported injury, hit a tree. A sheriff’s deputy later canceled the ambulance call, but firefighters spent about an hour at the wreck.
4:14 a.m. — A 76-year-old woman awakened by pain in one of her legs at a residence in the 200 block of S. Washington St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance attendant initially informed St. Luke that the patient would be going there instead.
11:22 a.m. — A 65-year-old man with chest pains at a residence in the 600 block of N. Poplar St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
12:49 p.m. — A 77-year-old woman with stroke-like symptoms at Salem Home was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH.
3:41 p.m. — Presumably the same patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to St. Francis. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 6:06 p.m.
MONDAY
10:58 a.m. — A 69-year-old man drifting in and out of consciousness after a fall at a residence in the 700 block of N. Sycamore St. in Peabody was classified as being in potentially life-threatening condition but declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. The county ambulance director also responded.
1:39 p.m. — A 23-year-old man who cut his hand and passed out at Peabody Sausage House declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
3:09 p.m. — A 78-year-old woman who fell at a residence in the 1100 block of E. Denver St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters helped lift the patient.
3:54 p.m. — A 69-year-old man with high blood sugar measured by a home health nurse at a residence in the 700 block of N. Sycamore St. in Hillsboro was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance.
7:41 p.m. — A 25-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 11:10 p.m.
9:27 p.m. — Transfer by Marion ambulance of a 69-year-old man with cancer and a kidney injury from St. Luke to Salina Regional Health Center was delayed until Hillsboro ambulance returned to the county. Marion ambulance returned to its station at 1:04 a.m.
