Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
FEB. 24
9:14 a.m. — A 26-year-old woman who suffered a seizure at County Inn motel in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
11:11 a.m. — An 82-year-old woman throwing up at farmhouse near US-50 and 90th Rd. was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Marion ambulance.
12:21 p.m. — A controlled burn that grew out of control near K-150 and Yarrow Rd. was extinguished within 45 minutes by Marion firefighters. A brush truck became stuck in mud while attempting to reach the fire.
8:19 p.m. — An 81-year-old man with an obstructed bowel was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 11:49 p.m.
FEB. 25
1:15 p.m. — A 76-year-old man having trouble walking at a farm on the county line east of Diamond Rd. was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer other than to warn about road closures in the area. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 3:41 p.m.
THURSDAY
11:22 a.m. — An 80-year-old woman not feeling well at Prairie View’s mental health facility in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
12:29 p.m. — A 33-year-old woman who fell out of bed in the 300 block of S. Ash St. in Hillsboro was helped up by Hillsboro firefighters and ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
2:09 p.m. — An 88-year-old man having trouble walking and breathing at a residence in the 500 block of Columbus St. in Tampa was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance.
2:14 p.m. — An 81-year-old woman still on the floor after falling more than a day earlier at a home in the 100 block of W. 4th St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Florence firefighters helped lift the woman.
10:46 p.m. — A St. Luke patient whose condition was not mentioned in monitored broadcasts was transferred to St. Francis by Marion ambulance.
FRIDAY
12:05 p.m. — A gallon of diesel fuel that leaked onto Lincolnville’s Main St. near the town fire station was cleaned up by Lincolnville firefighters. The county’s emergency manager also responded.
3:50 p.m. — A relatively small, unattended grass fire that extended into trees near 220th and Kanza Rds. was extinguished within 50 minutes by Hillsboro firefighters. Firefighting efforts were hampered by mud.
4:39 p.m. — A 90-year-old woman described as oddly energetic but not making sense at a home in the 400 block of S. Roosevelt St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance, but ambulance attendants remained at her home to help her go by a private vehicle.
5:39 p.m. — A 47-year-old Hillsboro man with possible mental health and substance abuse issues was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Police accompanied the ambulance.
8:17 p.m. — An automated notification from a smart watch about a person who reportedly fell at a home near 60th and Nighthawk Rds. was determined by Marion ambulance attendants to have been a false alarm.
11:58 p.m. — An 85-year-old man having abdominal pain and vomiting at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
SATURDAY
12:31 a.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance on a call, Marion ambulance and Hillsboro police were called for a 42-year-old man who was reported to be intoxicated while going through detoxification at a rental home near 3rd and Washington Sts. in Hillsboro. He was taken to HCH.
5:12 a.m. — What appeared to be the same 85-year-old man taken to HCH five hours earlier was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 6:59 a.m.
6:31 a.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance on a call, Marion ambulance was sent to HCH to transfer an unspecified patient to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Marion at 9:18 a.m.
9:50 a.m. — An 86-year-old man, weak and lethargic at a home in the 300 block of N. Birch St. in Hillsboro, was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 11:53 a.m.
9:54 a.m. — An 87-year-old woman with a history of dementia who fell and hurt her knee at a home in the 700 block of S. Freeborn St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
6:48 p.m. — An 85-year-old man with a septic joint was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion at 9:47 p.m.
SUNDAY
7:02 a.m. — A 54-year-old man having trouble breathing at a camper trailer near railroad tracks off S. Olive St. in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance. Peabody firefighters helped lift the man. The ambulance returned to Marion at 10:14 a.m.
7:46 a.m. — What came in as a report of a ditch on fire in the 200 block of S. Garfield St. in Marion was determined by Marion firefighters to be an unreported controlled burn.
4:07 p.m. — An automated medical alert for what was described as an elderly woman in the 600 block of S. Lincoln St. in Marion was determined by Marion police to be a false alarm before Marion ambulance arrived.
7:39 p.m. — A 61-year-old woman who suffered a stroke was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to St. Francis. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 10:26 p.m.
MONDAY
7:10 a.m. — A fire alarm at Tabor College’s Dakota Hall was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been caused by a cooking mishap.
7:47 a.m. — Marion ambulance was dispatched for a driver involved In a one-vehicle accident on Quail Creek Rd. between 180th and 190th Rds. However, radio transmissions did not indicate whether the ambulance transported anyone. Marion firefighters also were briefly dispatched before learning they would not be needed.
11:41 a.m. — A 67-year-old man who fell more than 10 feet out of a tree near 130th and Pawnee Rds. and hurt his back was taken to Wesley by Marion ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance also responded. A helicopter ambulance was summoned, but the call was canceled before it arrived. Marion ambulance returned shortly before 3 p.m.
