Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JUNE 9

3:39 a.m. — A man with stomach pain at Grand Oaks Apartments in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:05 a.m. — A woman was found dead at a farmhouse near 190th and Alamo Rds. A sheriff’s deputy, Hillsboro ambulance, and an ambulance supervisor responded. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.

3:40 p.m. — A power pole dangling by its wires near 280th and Quail Creek Rds. was checked by Tampa firefighters.

6:13 p.m. — A tree on a power line behind a home in the 100 block of County Rd. in Tampa was monitored by Tampa firefighters until an Evergy crew could deal with the problem.

JUNE 10

1:47 p.m. — A carbon monoxide alarm at a home in the 200 block of S. Kennedy St. in Hillsboro was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been a false alarm. Five people in the home were checked by Hillsboro ambulance attendants and an ambulance supervisor but were not taken to a hospital. Marion ambulance also was dispatched, but the call was canceled before it arrived.

4:08 p.m. — A man who reportedly rolled a vehicle on US-77 two miles south of Florence declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

8:19 p.m. — A 64-year-old man with chest pain was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

8:35 p.m. — Power failed at Durham, Lincolnville, Lost Springs, Ramona, and Tampa for two or more hours. A funnel cloud aloft was reported north of 290th and Kanza Rds., then at 360th and Kanza Rds. and at 320th and Remington Rds. Ramona firefighters were unable at 8:50 p.m. to activate storm sirens because power had failed but used sirens on fire vehicles instead. Sirens were activated in Lincolnville at 9:07 p.m. A tree fell on a porch in Ramona. A power line was reported down in an alley in Tampa.

THURSDAY

6:56 a.m. — A 91-year-old man suffering an apparent transient ischemic attack at a home in the 600 block of S. Freeborn St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

6:57 a.m. — A 25-year-old woman with abdominal pain at a home in the 200 block of W. 6th St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Hillsboro ambulance, filling in for Marion ambulance.

10:37 a.m. — A 66-year-old woman who tripped over a dishwasher door and hurt her knee at a home in the 500 block of N. Freeborn St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters helped lift her.

2:07 p.m. — The same patient, now diagnosed with a fractured knee, was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

3:01 a.m. — A 56-year-old man with a history of alcoholism, dizzy and falling down while in atrial fibrillation at a home in the 200 block of E. 2nd St. in Hillsboro, was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.

4:20 p.m. — A 9-year-old boy who fell off a trampoline and may have dislocated his arm at a farmhouse near 130th and Alamo Rds. was checked by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but taken to a hospital by private vehicle. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.

8:48 p.m. — A 79-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a farmhouse on 270th Rd. east of US-56/77 declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

8:50 p.m. — A 73-year-old woman who fell, hit her head, and dislocated a finger at a farmhouse west of US-56/77 on 320th Rd. was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance. Lincolnville first responders cared for the patient until the ambulance arrived 12 minutes later.

10:58 p.m. — A man involved in an accident on Bison Rd. north of US-56 was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters and an ambulance supervisor also responded.

FRIDAY

12:11 a.m. — The 73-year-old woman taken to St. Luke earlier was transferred by Marion ambulance to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

5:05 a.m. — A fire alarm at Westview Manor in Peabody was determined by Peabody firefighters to be an unreported fire drill.

8:19 a.m. — Repeated fire alarms at Harms Hall on the Tabor College campus were determined by Hillsboro firefighters to be caused by a malfunctioning alarm system.

1:16 p.m. — A 72-year-old man who fell and may have been lying on the ground overnight near the Historic Elgin Hotel parking lot in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

2:35 p.m. — A 73-year-old woman complaining of pain after falling earlier at a home in the 200 block of N. Elm St. in Burns was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Burns first responders cared for the patient until the ambulance arrived.

2:56 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance transferred an unspecified patient from St. Luke to Wesley.

4 p.m. — A backup ambulance based in Hillsboro transferred an unspecified cardiac patient from HCH to Kansas Heart.

5:35 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance transferred another unspecified patient from St. Luke to Wesley.

7:02 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance transferred yet another unspecified patient from HCH to NMC Health, Newton.

9:41 p.m. — Marion ambulance initially was dispatched to Florence for a woman who may have overdosed on medicine, but the call quickly was canceled.

11:44 p.m. — An uninjured 65-year-old man who fell at a home in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

SATURDAY

7:25 a.m. — Marion ambulance transferred an unspecified patient from St. Luke to Wesley.

1:29 p.m. — A 96-year-old woman who fell and hit her head at Parkside Homes assisted living in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

2 p.m. — An unconscious, diabetic 71-year-old man receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the basement of a home in the 700 block of N. Sycamore St. in Peabody was taken by Hillsboro ambulance on an emergency basis to Wesley. Peabody firefighters helped provide CPR. An ambulance supervisor also responded.

8:14 p.m. — A 54-year-old woman who fell at a home in the 200 block of Grandview St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Florence firefighters helped lift her.

8:15 p.m. — A potential funnel cloud aloft briefly was indicated on radar northwest of Lincolnville. Storm sirens were activated. Power failed in Peabody and Tampa and at the US-56/77/K-150 roundabout, where some signs were blown down. Rainbows were reported in Hillsboro and Marion.

SUNDAY

12:06 a.m. — After some difficulty gaining access to the building, a fire alarm at Marion High School and Middle School was determined by Marion firefighters to be a false alarm.

1:25 a.m. — A 54-year-old man with kidney failure was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.

5:55 a.m. — A 55-year-old man with chest pains and high blood pressure in the 800 block of Barker St. in Florence was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance.

11:19 a.m. — An unidentified person involved in a domestic dispute in the 900 block of N. Olive St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

1:03 p.m. — Goessel firefighters were dispatched for an 85-year-old man on a lawn mower stuck in a hole at a farm on 29th Ave. south of Comanche Rd. in McPherson County.

6:28 p.m. — A confused 86-year-old man not feeling well at Parkside Homes assisted living was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:51 p.m. — A fire alarm at Westview Manor in Peabody was determined before Peabody firefighters arrived to be a false alarm.

8:22 p.m. — A 72-year-old woman having trouble breathing at Indian Guide Terrace apartments in Peabody was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:16 p.m. — Leaking natural gas outside a home in the 300 block of Locust St. in Marion was shut off by Marion firefighters pending arrival of an Atmos Energy crew.

MONDAY

9:04 a.m. — A 14-year-old boy who hit a van while riding his bicycle at Denver and Roosevelt Sts. in Marion was checked by Marion ambulance attendants but taken to a hospital by private vehicle.

9:34 a.m. — Marion ambulance was dispatched and Tampa ambulance ordered to stand by in Hillsboro in case of additional calls after Hillsboro ambulance had mechanical problems while heading to Peabody for a 72-year-old man with abnormal breathing and numbness in the 800 block of N. Poplar St. in Peabody. The patient opted to go to a hospital by private vehicle instead of ambulance.

3:58 p.m. — A lawnmower fire at 180th and Holly Rd. was extinguished within 10 minutes by Hillsboro firefighters.

4:44 p.m. — A 60-year-old man who may have suffered a stroke in the 200 block of W. 11th St. in Florence declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
