DISPATCHES
Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
JULY 7
1:20 p.m. — Goessel firefighters were dispatched for a medical alarm on behalf of an 83-year-old man at a house near 29th Ave. and Dakota Rd. in McPherson County.
8:20 p.m. — A 44-year-old man needing magnetic resonance imaging was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Westview Manor, Peabody, to NMC Health, Newton.
9:24 p.m. — A 55-year-old woman with abdominal pain, vomiting, and dehydration in the 400 block of 5th St. in Durham was taken by a backup ambulance based in Hillsboro to St. Luke Hospital, Marion. Durham first responders arrived within eight minutes and cared for the patient until the ambulance based in Hillsboro arrived eight minutes later. Tampa ambulance also was dispatched, arriving three minutes after the backup ambulance.
JULY 8
5:43 a.m. — A 44-year-old woman with back pain at Country Inn motel room in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
12:04 p.m. — A 65-year-old man who fell out of bed at a home in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was helped by Marion ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.
THURSDAY
11:33 a.m. — A 79-year-old man with chest pain at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
12:16 p.m. — A 60-year-old woman who choked on food at Pop’s Diner in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance.
4:31 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to transfer a 79-year-old man with sepsis from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita, but the transfer was canceled.
5:46 p.m. — A 92-year-old woman who suffered a heart attack was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.
6:38 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance took to HCH a suicidal 18-year-old who overdosed on medication near 260th Rd. and K-15. Hillsboro firefighters with a drone also were dispatched but later were told they weren’t needed. An ambulance supervisor also responded.
FRIDAY
9:41 a.m. — A man who fell in the 200 block of N. Elm St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
11:02 a.m. — Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered to a 78-year-old man who had not been feeling well at his home in the 800 block of S. Roosevelt St. in Marion. Marion firefighters and an ambulance supervisor assisted before Marion ambulance attendants rushed him to St. Luke.
1:19 p.m. — Fire in the engine compartment of an antique Chevrolet Camaro GT parked on the north side of Marion County Courthouse was extinguished within 10 minutes by Marion firefighters.
4 p.m. — An 84-year-old woman with worsening Bell’s palsy at a home in Pilsen was taken by Marion ambulance to NMC Health, to which the ambulance was diverted because of system problems at St. Luke.
4:22 p.m. — A coroner was called for a man not breathing at a home in the 100 block of N. Madison St. in Hillsboro. Hillsboro firefighters, called to help with CPR, arrived within four minutes and reported that rigor mortise had set in. Hillsboro ambulance and an ambulance supervisor arrived four minutes later.
SATURDAY
3:50 p.m. — A dizzy 63-year-old woman who a child told dispatchers may have suffered a stroke at a home in the 200 block of W. 5th St. in Tampa was taken to HCH by Tampa ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded. Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched as well, but the call was canceled before the ambulance arrived.
5:22 p.m. — A law enforcement officer asked Hillsboro ambulance attendants to check an elderly man stopped in a Volkswagen sports-utility vehicle at K-15 and 110th Rd. He declined to be taken to a hospital.
8:06 p.m. — A 63-year-old woman with atrial fibrillation was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart.
9:22 p.m. — A 75-year-old man who choked on a jellybean at a home on Remington Rd. between 210th and 230th Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
SUNDAY
5:09 p.m. — Four people stranded aboard a pontoon boat off Cottonwood Point at Marion Reservoir were safely brought ashore within an hour by Hillsboro firefighters.
9:26 p.m. — A 75-year-old woman having trouble breathing at Peabody Health and Rehab was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. A supervisor joined the ambulance crew en route.
MONDAY
12:21 a.m. — In a repeat of a call on Wednesday, a 65-year-old man who fell at a home in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.
4:14 p.m. — A medical alarm on behalf of an 84-year-old woman in the 500 block of W. 1st St. was determined to be a false alarm before Hillsboro ambulance arrived.
