Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

AUG. 25

12:48 a.m. — A 36-year-old man who suffered a seizure, fell, and hit his head at a home in the 500 block of N. Sycamore St. in Peabody was taken to NMC Health, Newton, by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance arrived in Peabody 26 minutes after being called.

8:37 a.m. — A 75-year-old woman suffering stroke-like symptoms at a home in the 100 block of S. Cedar St. in Goessel was taken on an emergency basis to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance. A Goessel first responder arrived within six minutes and cared for the patient until the ambulance arrived nine minutes later.

9:32 a.m. — A 71-year-old woman who fell at Indian Guide Terrace apartments in Peabody was helped up by a Peabody police officer. A call for a backup ambulance based in Hillsboro was canceled before the ambulance arrived.

AUG. 26

1:01 a.m. — An uninjured 65-year-old woman who fell out of bed at Homestead Senior Residences in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

9:53 a.m. — A woman with a rapid heartbeat and breathing problems in the 400 block of E. 1st St. in Hillsboro was taken to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.

2:23 p.m. — Marion ambulance returned to the same Homestead apartment to once again help up an uninjured 65-year-old woman who fell. Marion firefighters also were called to help lift the woman, who declined to be taken to a hospital.

6:05 p.m. — A 15-year-old girl with appendicitis was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to NMC Health.

THURSDAY

7:10 a.m. — An alarm company informed dispatchers that a fire alarm at Westview Manor in Peabody was a false alarm before Peabody firefighters arrived.

7:46 a.m. — A second alarm at Westview Manor was determined by Peabody firefighters to be a false alarm caused by overheating in an area in which air conditioning had been turned off.

9:56 a.m. — A Peabody police officer applied a tourniquet and implemented shock protocols for a 50-year-old man with serious bleeding from a leg wound at Westview Manor before Hillsboro ambulance arrived 18 minutes after being dispatched. A Peabody firefighter also arrived before the ambulance and attempted to set up a landing zone for a helicopter ambulance but did not have access to a regional interoperability talk group available on his radio.

Additional information was not recorded because of technical difficulties with newspaper monitoring equipment until 6:56 p.m.

10:22 p.m. — A 62-year-old man with epilepsy feeling dizzy at a farm near Alamo and 100th Rds. was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. A Goessel first responder arrived moments after the ambulance, 26 minutes after the initial call.

10:49 p.m. — A 57-year-old man with chest pains at a farm near 80th and Wagon Wheel Rd. was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Marion ambulance, which arrived 24 minutes after being dispatched. Florence first responders were paged but did not answer.

FRIDAY

12:42 a.m. — A 57-year-old man who suffered a heart attack was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance on an emergency basis from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

5:40 a.m. — A smoke alarm in a stairwell at Alexanderwohl Church was determined by Goessel firefighters to caused by a malfunction.

11:09 a.m. — Hillsboro police asked Hillsboro ambulance attendants to check a woman at Hillsboro Elementary School who may have shown signs of being injured at home. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

12:46 p.m. — A 63-year-old woman, vomiting and lying on a floor at a home in the 100 block of N. Cincinnati Ave. in Burns, was taken to Wesley by Marion ambulance. Burns first responders arrived within 16 minutes and provided care until the ambulance arrived 13 minutes later.

1:25 p.m. — With Marion ambulance in Burns, Hillsboro ambulance was sent to the same Homestead apartment visited twice by Marion ambulance and took a 65-year-old woman with a diagnosed brain tumor and mobility issues to St. Luke.

3:27 p.m. — Marion ambulance was sent to a farm near Alamo and 100th Rds. that Hillsboro ambulance earlier had visited for a 62-year-old man who became dizzy and fell. The ambulance arrived after 19 minutes, but the man declined to be taken to a hospital. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.

5:26 p.m. — Marion ambulance attendants were called to Homestead again to help the patient earlier taken to St. Luke return to bed.

8:50 p.m. — An uninjured 65-year-old man in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

11:45 p.m. — Two people involved in a head-on collision on US-56/77 north of 300th Rd. declined to be taken to hospitals by Marion and Tampa ambulances. Lincolnville first responders and Marion firefighters also were dispatched, and an ambulance supervisor also responded.

SATURDAY

12:37 p.m. — A 45-year-old woman having a seizure at 5th and Plum Sts. in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance.

12:55 p.m. — Police asked Marion firefighters to help a driver get a vehicle out of drive and into park in a parking lot at Casey’s General Store in Marion, but the call was canceled before they arrived.

1:57 p.m. — A forage harvester fire along Eagle Rd. between 310th and 320th Rds. was extinguished within 20 minutes by Tampa firefighters.

2:32 p.m. — An unconscious 55-year-old man at Westview was taken on an emergency basis to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance, which arrived 23 minutes after receiving the call. An ambulance supervisor also responded.

5:53 p.m. — A backup ambulance based in Hillsboro stood by until 8:57 p.m. at a Tabor College football game against Sterling College at Joel Wiens Stadium in Hillsboro.

6:34 p.m. — An allergic 46-year-old man barely breathing after being stung by a bee at a home on Old Mill Rd. south of Potter Rd. near Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. Deputies from Marion and firefighters with an epi pen from Peabody arrived within 15 minutes and cared for the man until the ambulance arrived 11 minutes later.

9:37 p.m. — Another fire alarm at Westview was determined by Peabody firefighters to be a false alarm.

10:43 p.m. — An odor thought to be from natural gas inside the Hillsboro ambulance station was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to emanate from an overcharged battery in a Hillsboro ambulance.

SUNDAY

10:10 a.m. — Marion ambulance again was dispatched to the same Homestead apartment they visited earlier in the week for a 65-year-old woman losing control of bodily functions and took her to St. Francis. An ambulance supervisor and a Marion police officer helped get the woman into the ambulance.

1:53 p.m. — Tampa firefighters helped remove a round bale that fell off a truck and onto 290th Rd. east of Old Mill Rd.

6:14 p.m. — A fire at a home near 175th and Sunrise Rds. was extinguished by residents before firefighters from Marion, Hillsboro, and Peabody arrived.

11:19 p.m. — An 84-year-old woman with an unspecified condition was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to St. Francis.

MONDAY

7:44 a.m. — A 44-year-old man who fell and hit his head after a confrontation with another resident at Westview was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. A Peabody police officer arrived within six minutes and provided care until the ambulance arrived 16 minutes later. A nurse who was hit during the confrontation was examined by Marion ambulance, which arrived 46 minutes after the initial call, but declined to be taken to a hospital. Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by in Hillsboro until 9:08 a.m. in case of additional calls.

2:41 p.m. — A grass fire near 260th and Nighthawk Rds. was extinguished within an hour by Tampa firefighters.

3:29 p.m. — A 74-year-old man with abnormal lab tests, possibly indicating a heart attack, was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance on an emergency basis from Parkside Homes to St. Francis.

3:42 p.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance occupied, Marion ambulance was dispatched to take an 88-year-old woman who fell at a home in the 500 block of W. 1st St. in Hillsboro to HCH. Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by in Hillsboro until 5:17 p.m. in case of additional calls.
