Ervin Berger

Services for Ervin Edward Berger, 88, who died Aug. 23 at his home in Peabody, will be scheduled later.

He was born Nov. 20, 1932, in a small farmhouse near Walton to Reinold and Cora Berger. His family moved to Sedgwick in 1938 and to Newton in 1940.

He began working at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita in October 1951. He worked there for 44 years. He married Frances Lavonne Schmidt on June 29, 1958.

In retirement, he volunteered restoring a B-29 bomber nicknamed “Doc” in Wichita and Newton. As a longtime volunteer on the project, he was treated with a ride on “Doc” and got to fly over Peabody. Ervin also was an avid golfer and enjoyed three nights a week of bowling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances, two sisters, and four brothers.

He is survived by two sisters; one brother; sons Michael (and wife Cheryl) of Peabody, Gary (and wife Sue) of Clearwater, and Scott (and wife Jennifer) of Circleville, New York; daughter Cathy (and husband Kent) of Wichita; eight grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
