Farmers market checks, commodities available

Packets of seven $5 vouchers that can be used at farmers markets are available for qualifying seniors 60 years old and older.

The vouchers can be used to purchase fruits, vegetables, honey, and herbs from authorized farmers at any farmers market in Kansas.

Vendors who accept the vouchers display a sign. To qualify, individuals must have less than $1,383 in monthly income. For each additional household member up to three, add $700 to the maximum income.

Vouchers are available from the county’s department on aging.

Similar income limits apply to qualify for federal commodities scheduled to arrive June 16. But for each additional household member up to four, add $485 to the maximum income.

Commodities will be available first come, first served.

June 16 — Burns Community Center, morning. Lincolnville Community Center, 10:30 to 11 a.m. Marion Senior Center, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Peabody Senior Center, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Pilsen, 11:30 a.m. Ramona Community Center, morning. Tampa Senior Center, 3 to 4 p.m. Goessel Mennonite Church, 5 p.m.

June 17 — Florence Senior Center, 9 to 11 a.m.

June 19 — Hillsboro Main St. Ministries, 9 a.m. to noon.

Marion Senior Center will have pallets available after commodities are distributed.
