Although not new to the barbering business or to Marion, Shawn Nguyen opened a new barbershop this month.

The barbershop is located between Silk Salon and the coin laundry on 2nd St.

Nguyen and his wife have lived east of the reservoir since 2004.

During that time, he worked 11 years for Prestressed Concrete in Newton and three years for Agco Corp. in Hesston.

After completing barber school in 2016, he considered opening a shop in Marion or Hillsboro, but decided the time wasn’t right.

He went to work at Rusty Edge, an eight chair barbershop in Dodge City, where he grew up. Meanwhile, he drove back and forth between Eastshore and Dodge City Rusty Edge 2.

He talked to people who run barbershops in Marion and Hillsboro, then decided to open his own barbershop in Marion, Rusty Edge 2.

He hopes to grow his business here.

For now, he splits his time between the shops in Marion and Dodge City.

His Marion shop is open 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

“I’m here waiting to have a service business,” he said.

Nguyen said he cuts a lot of hair for high school students.
