Many holiday events planned for Dec. 7

Events all over the county will celebrate the holiday season Dec. 7.

Cowboy Christmas

The first Dec. 7 event, opening at 10 a.m., will be Cowboy Christmas at Marion County Lake.

People can buy food and gifts from vendors and have photos taken with Grinch.

Peabody Legion sale

Peabody’s American Legion Auxiliary will have an arts and crafts sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Legion Hall.

Artists and craftsmen will offer unique gifts for sale.

Auxiliary members will prepare homemade burritos. Santa Claus will read “The Night Before Christmas,” and the book will be given away after the reading.

Come Home

Peabody’s Come Home for Christmas celebration will launch at 4 p.m. Dec. 7.

Festivities will kick off with a parade.

Various downtown locations will offer horse-drawn carriage rides, caricature drawings, face painting, and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Laughing Matters, a mime, juggling, and comedy act, will perform at 5 p.m. at the senior center.

A comedy puppet show for kids and a human slot machine game will entertain the crowd.

Hot chocolate will be served by 4-H members, and cookies will be served by Mrs. Claus. S’mores will be made by a fire.

Sign-making, ornament-making, a coloring contest, and a scavenger hunt will be offered for kids.

Luke Hind and Isaiah Eldridge will perform live music.

A raffle will support Keira’s Cheer Hawaii.

Kids can make their own reindeer food and put together gingerbread houses.

Kids or adults can step around a circle to music in a cake walk.

Granny’s Eats and Sweets will serve food to top off grab-and-go hot dogs. Porcupine Tea will serve hot drinks and boba, and peppernuts will be available for sale.

Christmas tree lighting will be at 5:30 p.m. Festivities will last until 7 p.m.

Down Home Christmas

Hillsboro’s Down Home Christmas, an all-day celebration of all things Christmas, will begin at 9 a.m. Dec. 7 in downtown Hillsboro.

Vendors will line Main St., children can get photos taken with the Grinch, and a cinnamon roll and chili lunch will be available at the Chamber of Commerce office.

Parkside will have a holiday craft sale, a Christmas escape room will be at Studio 23 Dance studio from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and vendors will be scattered in several locations.

A live nativity scene and live animals will be displayed and Scheffler House Museum and several Chamber of Commerce members will have open houses.

Hillsboro Public Library plans crafts for kids and help kids write letters to Santa before watching him be escorted downtown by emergency vehicles at 3 p.m.

After Santa arrives, he will light the community Christmas tree.

Musical presentations

Studio 23 dance studio will have a Nutcracker recital at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 7 in the Hillsboro High School auditorium.

Singer David Vogel will perform at 7 p.m. Dec. 7 at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church.
