No seniors for Centre volleyball

Staff writer

Centre’s young volleyball team also has a new coach, Trevor Siebert, who is principal for grades six through 12.

He coached girls basketball for seven years before coming to Centre three years ago and has assisted in basketball, football, volleyball, and cross-country as well as coaching boys golf.

The team’s 13 members all are underclassmen.

“This year’s team is young with zero seniors on the team,” Siebert said. “They have a great passion and love for the game of volleyball that has led to great improvements already.

“I expect that we will continue to get better every day and compete every night. If we continue to see improvements, the results will take care of themselves.”

Payton Svitak, a 5-8 junior, and Olivia Carlson, a 5-7 sophomore, are middle hitters.

Hailey Barton, a 5-6 sophomore, is a setter.

Sarah David, a 5-3 junior, and Kenide Steiner, a 5-8 junior, are outside hitters.

Jenaya Plett, a 5-4 junior, is a right side hitter. Addie Makovec, a 5-5 junior, is libero.

Other members are freshmen Lily Hauck, Sydney Smith, and Anna Godinez Vinduska; sophomore Shae Marshall; and juniors Emilee Remmers and Allie Stuchlik.

Siebert is assisted by his wife, Rachelle. She always has been involved in her husband’s teams. Her father was a coach for 40 years.

The team lost in straight sets to Class 3A Inman in its first match of the season last week at Canton-Galva. In a league matchup against Canton-Galva, Centre won the first set but finished 1-2 in the match.

After a match Tuesday at Little River, the team will be host Saturday for an invitational tournament.
