REPORTED

These offense reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

Criminal threat, battery, aggravated burglary, interference with law enforcement

Drug and alcohol use are suspected in a series of incidents between 1:33 and 2:35 p.m. Oct. 20 that ended at a rental home in the 200 block of N. Maple St. in Peabody.

According to a report by deputy Landis Goodman, who appears to have been assigned because no Peabody officers were available, Richard T. Litton, 39, Peabody, threatened to shoot 56-year-old John D. Gillett at his rural Peabody residence.

Gillett’s rural neighbor, Alan G. Mellott, 85, was battered but not injured, and Litton attempted to enter a locked dwelling occupied by Leslie H. Thouvenell a few blocks away from where the incident took place. Thouvenell’s age was redacted from the report by the sheriff’s department.

The residence where the incident was listed as occurring appears on appraisal records as being owned by Anthony Strasser of Mesa, Arizona.

Litton was taken to Marion County jail. Jail records, unlike the offense report, list criminal damage to property instead of aggravated burglary and two counts rather than one of making a criminal threat.

He later was formally charged in court with single counts of criminal threat, battery, and interference with law enforcement but not criminal damage or aggravated burglary.

Litton, previously jailed nine times for a total of all or part of 333 days between Feb. 1, 2018, and Oct. 12, 2021, was held in lieu of posting a $10,000 bond.

Theft

A 10-foot Tracker jon boat owned by Alltech Engineering of Mendota Heights, Minnesota, and valued at $1,170 was reported stolen between noon Oct. 17 and 7 a.m. Oct. 21 from Marion Cove at Marion Reservoir.

The theft apparently was reported by Alltech employee Zachary R. Whitney, 42, Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

MARION

Criminal damage

A lock valued at $25 on a trailer outside Earl L. Hamilton’s residence in the 300 block of W. Main St. was damaged between 5 p.m. Sept. 25 and 8:30 a.m. Oct. 27, according to a report released Tuesday.

Criminal threat

A 21-year-old male acquaintance from Lincolnville allegedly threatened to stab Ryan A. Williams, 29, Marion, at 11 p.m. Saturday outside Diamond C Fitness, near Williams’ apartment on E. Main St.

Police have referred the case along with video and a witness statement to the county attorney for possible prosecution.

An offense report appears to indicate that a knife was not displayed.
