Palic eyes final goals in sports

Staff writer

Todd Palic is keeping his eyes on the prize even as commencement nears.

The Marion High honor student was runner-up at state wrestling and a football All-League honoree, but there are still two key track and field meets left — regionals and state.

A top hurler this year, Palic gives himself a decent chance of qualifying for state in discus and javelin. Track and field caps a wonderful and strange sports season for the senior.

Palic was happy to just compete at state in wrestling after everyone though the season would be canceled because of COVID-19.

He opted to learn online at home for three weeks as state competition neared to keep exposure to the virus from sickening him or crushing his hopes with an order to quarantine.

“That way I wouldn’t have to deal with it taking me out of state,” he said.

His hope, for now, is to compete well Friday — win discus and place in javelin and shot put.

For now, he has no plans to “waste money on a college application” and plans to work alongside his brothers for a turf company out of Wichita.

Palic’s advice for underclassmen coping with stress is not to sweat it. “Don’t stress over little things,” he said. “Just live.”
