ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

May 31 — Juveniles trespassing inside a vacant building in the 100 block of N. Main St. were contacted along with their parents; the property owner did not want to press charges. A license plate was reported stolen from a motor scooter. A bank alarm at Central National Bank proved to be a false alarm. A resident was helped with a civil issue.

June 1 — Improper dumping of trash at the city recycling center and a dog illegally running free in the 100 block of W. Grand Ave. were reported. Police attempted to return recovered personal property.

Thursday — A driver in the 800 block of S. Ash St. was cited for having an expired license. A hitchhicker on US-56 at Limestone Rd. was checked out.

Friday — A noise complaint in the 400 block of N. Ash St. was resolved. Three drivers received warnings — for making a J-turn in the 100 block of N. Main St., for texting while driving in the 500 block of E. D St., and for having excessively tinted windows. Residents were helped with child custody issues, unemployment verification, and questions about civil process.

Saturday — A driver in the 300 block of E. D St. was warned about not dimming headlights.

Sunday — Police helped a driver who needed fuel.

MARION

May 31 — A baby raccoon stuck in a pipe was freed and relocated to a safer area. A driver was cited for going 32 mph in a 20-mph zone at Main and 3rd Sts. No problems were found after investigating a disconnected 911 call originating in the 100 block of Elm St.

June 1 — A driver who reportedly left without paying for gasoline returned and paid. A trespasser in the 700 block of Nickerson St. was warned. A suspicious vehicle in that block also was checked. Union Pacific Railroad was contacted about a malfunctioning crossing light. The welfare of a resident of the 100 block of N. Freeborn St. was checked.

Thursday — Another welfare check was completed in the 100 block of N. Freeborn St.

Friday — Children reportedly riding on golf carts were not located. The welfare of a resident of the 500 block of S. Cedar St. was checked.

Saturday — A disturbance in the 800 block of E. Main St. was investigated. A driver on Cedar St. near US-56 was cited for going 44 mph in a 30-mph zone and for not having proof of liability insurance. A suspicious person reported to be in the 800 block of N. Roosevelt St. Was not found.

Sunday – A driver on US-56 near Upland Rd. was cited for going 78 mph in a 65-mph zone.
