ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

Sept. 30 — Drivers were warned for having a headlight out in the 300 block of N. Ash St., for driving left of center at US-56 and Kanza Rd., and for speeding in the 300 block of N. Ash St. A resident asked for information about riding bicycles on city streets. Police stood by during a civil matter in the 600 block of S. Ash St.

Oct. 1 — Drivers were warned for making a J-turn in the 100 block of N. Main St. and for running a stop sign in the 100 block of N. Ash St. No problems were found in checking on the welfare of a resident of the 200 block of S. Elm St.

Oct. 2 — A dog reported to be loose in the 100 block of N. Jefferson St. and a snake reported to be in a tree in the 900 block of E. D St. were not found. Drivers were warned for speeding in the 400 block of E. Grand Ave. and in the 100 block of E. 3rd St.

Thursday — Police helped a driver locked out of a vehicle and provided information about standing by during a civil matter.

Friday — A lost license plate was returned to its owner. Drivers were ticketed for having an expired license in the 100 block of N. Ash St., for having an expired license plate and no liability insurance in the 600 block of N. Ash St., and for speeding at US-56 and Orchard Dr. Other drivers were warned for running a stop sign and having invalid registration at 2nd and Adams Sts., for not using lights when required in the 300 block of N. Ash St., and for speeding at 180th and Indigo Rds. Police enforced curfew at Memorial Park and tagged for towing a vehicle illegally parked in the 200 block of N. Washington St.

Saturday — A traffic stop at Casey’s General Store for speeding and erratic driving resulted in an arrest for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Other drivers were ticketed for speeding at Juniper and Ash Sts. and at Indigo and 170th Rds. and were warned for having a brake light out at US-56 near Adams St. A non-injury accident at Casey’s General Store was investigated.

Sunday — Drivers were warned for driving left of center at US-56 and Falcon Rd. and for equipment violations in the 500 block of S. Ash St. and at US-56 and Limestone Rd.

MARION

Sept. 30 — A business reporting a theft in the 1100 block of E. Main St. asked that the suspect not be charged but be told not to return. What was reported as a burglary in progress in the 400 block of S. Roosevelt St. turned out to be a plumber working at the house. Police responded to a false alarm at St. Luke Hospital and spoke to a landlord about a problem tenant.

Oct. 1 — As reported in a news story last week, a brief chase after police attempted to stop a vehicle near Main and Elm Sts. ended in a wreck near Main and Walnut Sts. and a brief foot pursuit after which an 18-year-old from Marion was arrested. A theft report was referred to Newton police. A driver was ticketed for speeding, having no liability insurance, and driving with a suspended license at Main and Lincoln Sts.

Oct. 2 — Drivers were warned for speeding near Main and Elm Sts. and for an unspecified moving violation near Main and 5th Sts.

Thursday — Police helped a driver whose vehicle broke down near Main and Billings St. Police gave an elderly man walking in the 500 block of Eisenhower Dr. a ride home.

Friday — A dog bite was reported in the 100 block of N. Cedar St. Police helped with an out-of-control juvenile at Marion Elementary School. A driver was warned for speeding in the 900 block of N. Cedar St.

Saturday — A 47-year-old Marion resident was arrested after a disturbance in the 300 block of S. Lincoln St.; he previously had been reported by St. Luke Hospital as being suicidal. Police helped with combative inmates at the county jail and spoke to a resident about a civil issue.

Sunday — Parents were notified after a child involved in suspicious activity in the 900 block of Melvin St. was located.
