Goessel boys runners finish in 23rd. Marion cross country next up in Herington.

Goessel

In 90-degree weather, Goessel runners competed Thursday at Hesston Golf Park.

Junior Javin Schmidt led the Bluebirds, finishing in 20:28.80. Senior Joey Lapp finished 16th with a time of 21:40.90.

Goessel’s boys team finished in 23rd place in this large race.

The Goessel girls attempted to improve their times.

Cheyenne Sawyer led the Bluebirds with a time of 27:42.10, 50 seconds faster than a year ago. Delaney Gibson circled the course in 28:34.70, and Braylyn Hoopes finished in 29:23.10, a minute faster than a year earlier.

The Goessel cross country teams will race Thursday at Bennington.

Marion

The Warriors ran Thursday in what is called a “unique meet,” in which athletes competed by age.

The meet included a total of eight races, starting with freshman girls and working up to senior boys. Marion had two freshmen boys in the race, Jaxon Salsbury and Keenan Lange.

“These two are continuing to push themselves and learning to trust the work that they have put it,” coach Jason Hett said.

In the boy’s race for sophomores, Logan Amos was able to compete for the first time this season.

“He looked good in areas of the race and he will continue to get stronger this season,” Hett said.

Marion cross country will be in Herington on Thursday.
