Trojan track coach wins women’s 5K
Brielle (Lund) Loewen, 30, who lives near Canada, was the overall winner of the Emma Creek 5K run Saturday in Hesston. She finished with a time of 20 minutes 6 seconds.
The women-only race drew more than 500 runners.
Loewen has been a runner most of her life. She was a runner in high school and as a student at Tabor College.
She became an assistant cross-country coach there, and now coaches track at Hillsboro High School.
Other top 10 winners from Marion County were Lindsay Hincher, 24, Hillsboro, fifth at 23:10; and Rebecca Kaufman, 22, Hillsboro, 10th, 24:37.
Those finishing among the top three in their age groups included Janae Rempel, 34, Hillsboro, third, 29:35; Gail Dyck, 49, Hillsboro, second, 32:28; Donna Washmon, 59, Hillsboro, second, 25:48; and Mary Roniger, 75, Burdick, second, 48:41.
