Wrestlers grapple with experienced competition

Staff writer

Hillsboro and Marion’s wrestling squads competed at the Herington invitational Saturday.

The Hillsboro girls finished 14th, and Marion 15th, out of the 16 teams in the girls’ division.

Hillsboro boys finished 9th and Marion 11th, out of 12 men’s teams.

Individually, Hillsboro’s Khloe Willis-Dirks placed fourth among girls, and Jaxon Chrislip of Hillsboro placed third among boys.

“We saw some positive things to continue to build on,” Hillsboro coach Scott O’Hare said. “It may not show up entirely in the wins and losses, but they battled hard showing improvements in positions and techniques, competed with a good attitude, and showed a lot of effort.”

The Marion coach did not respond to requests for comment.

We are unsure of where each Marion wrestler placed individually.

The next meet for Marion and Hillsboro will be a two-day tournament in Halstead.

The girls will wrestle in Halstead on Jan. 17, and the boys on Jan. 18th.
